Algerd Malishevsky was professionally educated at the Kharkiv State Art Institute. He studied under the famous artists Pyotr Kotov and Dmitry Shavykin. The artist returned to Belarus after graduation in 1953.His legendary teaching activity beganthe following year. He taught at the Minsk Art College for 28 years. He joined the Union of Artists of the BSSR in 1956.
Algerd Malishevsky was one of those artists who helped talented youth. He was one of the few who supported the banned 1985 exhibition “1+1+1+1+1+1=6” in the House of Writers. He also enthusiastically accepted the foundation of the art association “Nemiga-17”. In addition, Malishevsky participated in one of the exhibitions of this association. It took place at the Palace of Trade Unions in 1988. The master’s twenty paintings were displayed there.
Algerd Malishevsky died on November 22, 1989. All his creativity is a constant search and his desire for a philosophical understanding of creativity.
Algerd Malishevsky worked in the method of oil painting. He was attracted by many genres: portrait, landscape, thematic painting and still life. The artist clearly expressed his decorative and plastic searches. Algerd Malishevsky’s creativity can be divided into periods. The early works of the 1950s and 1960s have plein air features. The works of the 1970s – early 1980s are characterized by detailed images. Builders, collective farmers, doctors, artists and others often become the heroes of his canvases. The author paid attention to the images of mothers more than to military actions in his works devoted to the war. The artist began moving away from figurative painting from the 1980s. His canvases became increasingly abstract.
The exhibition displays the artist’s works from the funds of the National Art Museum, the Belarusian Union of Artists and from the artist’s family.
