Uladzimir Savich. Painting

Uladzimir Savich. Painting

The National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus Main building

Uladzimir Savich is one of the most famous artists in modern Belarus. He is well known to art lovers both in our country and abroad. The artist’s works became classic a long time ago. They brought up more than one generation of mature and famous local painters.

Uladzimir Savich belongs to the artists who never rest on their laurels. He started his career in graphic art. He became one of the brightest masters of the national graphic school during few decades. Being a recognized master, he made a sharp turn from graphics to painting, from realistic form to associativity and non-objectivity in the 21st century. Uladzimir Savich’s painting is not a reflection of the world around, but the author’s impressions in the fine arts, a figurative rethinking of the unity of nature, history and the spiritual life of man. His paintings are based on surprised color and light-and-dark combinations, in which expression is combined with meditation, improvisation and spontaneity are in harmony with a deep study of composition elements. They are very poetic, and even the titles of many works sound like lines from poems.

Uladzimir Savich’s creativities are deeply rooted in the artistic tradition, which is based on the Christian worldview, which implies the experience of the unity of the Divine world and the human world. Uladzimir Savich’s secular painting presents the stable world of history in an inseparable unity with the creative person. Under such a worldview, a painting, like an icon in Christianity, becomes a mediator and an image that unites the both worlds and involves the viewer in co-creation.

Uladzimir Savich was born in Akciabr Village, Lahojsk District and Minsk Region, on April 16, 1952. He graduated from the Belarusian State Theater and Art Institute (now the Belarusian State Academy of Arts) in 1976. His graduation work is the design of the book ‘Pinsk Gentry’ by Vincent Dunin-Marcinkievič. It was awarded a diploma from the Academy of Arts of the USSR. He has been participated in exhibitions since 1972. He is a member of the Belarusian Union of Artists. He held the position of its chairman in 2007-2013. He is Honored Artist of the Republic of Belarus (1990), Laureate of the State Prize of the Republic of Belarus (2009) and Honorary Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts (2009). He taught at the Belarusian State Academy of Arts for many years. He was the head of the Graphics Department in 1989–2000.
