The Banner of Victory

The National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus Main building

On 29 January, 2025 at 5 p.m. the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus will unveil the exhibition “The Banner of Victory”.

The cultural and patriotic exhibition project “The Banner of Victory” is dedicated to the 80th anniversary celebrations of the Great Victory and the end of the Great Patriotic War. The Victory Banner is a symbol of pride, honour and dignity of the people who won.

The works on display depict the events of the Great Patriotic War and subsequent generations’ memories of it as interpreted by contemporary Russian artists born in the post-war period.

The exhibition presents genre paintings dedicated to wartime subjects, portraits of veterans of the Great Patriotic War, book illustrations, landscapes, still lifes, philosophical and symbolical works on the theme. Despite the stylistic diversity, they all share a common desire to show the war as a great human tragedy, the memory of which is preserved to this day in almost every family.

The exhibition has already been displayed in some Belarusian cities. In June 2024, it was exhibited at the Magiliou History Museum, and from July to September 2024 – at the Brest Fortress Museum.

The project is organised by the Russian Club of Orthodox Patrons and the Russian Society for Culture and Education. The exhibition’s concept belongs to Pyotr Stronsky, member of the Painting Section Board of the Moscow Union of Artists, People’s Artist of the Russian Federation and academician of the Russian Academy of Arts.

The exhibition features over 40 paintings, graphic works and sculptures by artists belonging to several different generations. The artists on display include Pyotr Stronsky, Anton Stekolshchikov, Lyudmila Yuga, People’s Artists of the Russian Federation, Aleksandr Polozov, Honoured Artist of the Russian Federation, Aleksey Burtasenkov, Active Member of the Russian Academy of Arts, Boris Sergeyev, Honorary Member of the Russian Academy of Arts, and other renowned modern Russian artists.

The exhibition will be on display until February 24, 2025.
