Testing MAZ Trucks

The National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus Main building

In celebration of Labour Day, the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus presents “Testing MAZ Trucks” (1986), a one-work exhibition by Leanid Asyadouski (1934–1990).

The holiday was officially established in 1917. For many years, it had been celebrated as International Workers’ Solidarity Day. The tradition of observing the Day of Spring and Labour has persisted in Belarus up to the present time; in 1998, in accordance with the decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus, the International Workers’ Solidarity Day was renamed into Labour Day. This celebration honours high-performing workers in all fields.

In his painting “Testing MAZ Trucks” the Belarusian artist Leanid Asyadouski depicts the employees of one of the most famous automobile manufacturing plants of the Soviet Union and post-Soviet states over a friendly conversation about the successful test performance of new truck models. To this day, MAZ (Minsk Automobile Plant) is one of the leading producers of heavy vehicles, as well as civil transport vehicles and trailers.
