"Creators" Tamara and Vladimir Vasyuk

The National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus Exhibition building

The bright and wonderful tandem of Tamara and Vladimir Vasyuk is one of the most famous creative duets among modern Belarusian artists and teachers, celebrating their fiftieth anniversary this year.

The anniversary exhibition ‘Creators’ is part of the author’s project of the masters ‘Line and Forms’, which they have been creating for a quarter of a century.

The long-term connection of various forms and methods of pottery as one of the oldest forms of art contributed to the emergence of unique works that present to the viewer a harmonious environment filled with a sense of warmth and love of the creators’ creative and family union. Tamara Vasyuk owns ceramic art masterfully, and Vladimir Vasyuk creates his graphic sheets on philosophical and spiritual subjects.

The search for new images and meanings that harmoniously combine traditional and contemporary forms reflect the masters’ creative creed. They considerably form the school of contemporary national art. Spouses Tamara and Vladimir Vasyuk are not only active and highly professional artists who are awarded a lot, but they are also teachers for several generations of young Belarusian authors who studied under them at the Belarusian State University of Culture and Art and at the Belarusian State Academy of Arts.

Since 1990, Tamara Vasyuk has been working on the project to revive traditional Belarusian pottery on restoration, reconstruction and retransmission of its main types, forms and methods. Her ceramics are deliberately non-smooth and patchy. The surface of the ceramics has lines and strokes. It is to some extent ‘graphic’.

As a teacher, Tamara Vasyuk brought up a galaxy of young ceramists, laureates and scholarship holders of the special fund of the President of the Republic of Belarus to support talented youth working in all areas of traditional ceramics.

The artist’s works are in the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus, the National Historical Museum of the Republic of Belarus, the Belarusian State Museum of the History of Belarusian Literature, the Mogilev Regional Art Museum named after P. V. Maslenikov, in the funds of the exhibition association ‘Central House of Artists’ (Moscow) and in foreign collections.

Vladimir Vasyuk is a laureate in all-Union and republican poster and book design competitions. He is the author of more than 10 corporate styles, which include a sign, a logotype, a coat of arms, a flag, a banner, etc.

For his creative achievements, Vladimir Vasyuk is awarded the Francysk Skaryna Medal (2014), the Certificate of Honor of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus (2003), the Certificate of Honor of the Belarusian Exarchate of the Russian Orthodox Church (2005), the Honorary Badge of the Cultural Foundation of the Republic of Belarus.
