2024 marks the 170th anniversary of the birth of the artist Yehuda Pen and 155 years since the birth of Jacob Kruger, artists and teachers, founders of private schools of drawing and painting in Vitebsk and Minsk. They became the first and most important teachers for many of their students.
The exhibition “Yehuda Pen, Jacob Kruger. Art Schools of Belarus” was created using works of painting, graphics and sculpture from the collections of the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus and the Vitebsk Regional Museum of Local Lore.
The exhibition presents, firstly, the creative heritage of two brilliant Belarusian painters, Yehuda Pen and Jacob Kruger, and, secondly, the works of a whole galaxy of their students: Marc Chagall, Ossip Zadkine, David Yakerson, Elena Kabischer-Yakerson, Solomon Gershov, Efim Royak, Lev Zevin, Zair Azgur, Solomon Yudovin, Lev Leitman, Lazar Ran, Isaac Borovsky, Pyotr Yavich, Michel Kikoine, Mikhail Stanyuta, Isaac Milchin and others – all representatives of a great variety of artistic movements who created the portrait of the who created a portrait of the Belarusian school.
The exhibition “Yehuda Pen, Jacob Kruger. Art Schools of Belarus” will be on display from June 5 to August 18, 2024 in the exhibition building (24 Karl Marx St., 3rd floor, halls 1 and 2).
