Exhibition “Siamion Damarad. Landscapes of the Motherland”

The National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus Exhibition building

On October 10, 2024 at 5:00 pm, the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus will host the grand opening of the exhibition “Siamion Damarad. Landscapes of the Motherland”. The exhibition will feature about 50 paintings from the author’s studio and the museum’s collection.

Siamion Damarad is a name well-known to art lovers both in Belarus and abroad. Over the years of his activity, the artist has worked in a variety of methods and genres. In his early period, he created monumental paintings, stained-glass windows, mosaics, watercolours. Over the last twenty years, Siamion Damarad has been preoccupied with easel painting. His landscapes are executed in a realistic manner, yet their imagery is complex, wonderfully romantic and poetic. Siamion Damarad is an artist with an impressionistic worldview, trying to capture impressions from a fleeting moment. That’s why his canvases often depict transitional states – spring and autumn, evening and morning, – when the fluidity of nature is especially intense. The artist is inspired by views of his native Babruisk district, as well as the land of Narach.

Siamion Damarad was born into the family of the famous graphic artist Uladzimir Damarad on October 2, 1948 in Babruisk. He graduated from the Aliaksei Glebau Minsk Art School (1968) and the Belarusian State Theatre and Art Institute (1976). He has been exhibiting since 1972. The artist’s solo exhibitions have taken place in Belarus, Germany and Austria. He has been a member of the Belarusian Union of Artists since 1985. Awarded the Prize of Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus in 2011.

Siamion Damarad’s works are in the collections of the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus, the National Centre for Contemporary Arts of the Republic of Belarus, other museums and private collections in Belarus and abroad.

The exhibition runs until November 24, 2024.

Exhibition curator: Franc Korzun, researcher at the Exhibition Department of the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus.
