The River of Time

The National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus Main building

On 10 October the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus will present at its large gallery a new exhibition of 20th–21st century Belarusian painting, graphic arts and sculpture from its collection, aiming to showcase the work of artists who celebrate landmark birthdays and birth anniversaries in 2025. The works of about 50 artists represented in the display reflect the evolution of a diversity of worldviews over the decades. Some artists, separated by time, are remarkably in tune with each other, while others, despite working in the same era, are very different in their respective artistic approaches.

The exhibition, alongside celebrating the artists’ landmark birthdays and birth anniversaries, is an outstanding expansion of the museum’s permanent display, which primarily includes each artist’s signature works. The key idea is to reveal new facets of famous masters’ creative quests, their experiments (Mai Dantsyg, Leanid Dudarenka, Fyodar Darashevich, as well as to present unique and previously unseen works («Head of a Jewish Man» by Iail Levit,«Sailors» by Leanid Dubar, «Flood» by Ivan Karasiou).

Several artists represented at the exhibition are not Belarusian natives. Nevertheless, together they create a vibrant and multifaceted image of Belarusian fine arts.

The exhibition allows to get better acquainted with some pages from the hundred-year history of Belarusian art. The project is a unique opportunity to appreciate works which have for a very long time remained invisible to everybody but the museum staff.
