WITNESSES OF THE GREAT HISTORY. Belarusian and World Painting of the 16th – 19th century.

The National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus Exhibition building

On 8 May, 2025, the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus will present the temporary exhibition “WITNESSES OF THE GREAT HISTORY. Belarusian and World Painting of the 16th – 19th Century” in the museum’s exhibition building (24 K. Marx St., 4th floor).

The display showcases more than 40 Belarusian, Russian and Western European paintings depicting events of the Old and New Testament of the Bible and Christian saints.

Altar paintings, icons and historical paintings by various artists of different countries and different times illustrate significant events and outstanding personalities which are part of the Great History of Man. In the Bible, the life stories of Old Testament patriarchs, apostles, witnesses of the Gospel, and Christ himself are presented rather briefly, focusing on the most fateful events – it is these aspects of the Holy Scripture that have been one of the central subjects in the art of Christian countries for centuries.

The exhibition presents paintings of various art schools and eras from the collection of the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus.
