Stanislav Zhukovsky: family estate as point of attraction

The National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus Main building

On May 20, 2023 at 5:00 pm, as part of the Night of Museums, the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus will host the grand opening of the exhibition “Stanislav Zhukovsky: family estate as point of attraction”.

Stanislav Zhukovsky (1875–1944) is an exquisite painter, the author of lyrical, slightly nostalgic landscapes and estate interiors. He is one of the few artists of the turn of the century who worked on the estate theme. Manor landscapes, and even more importantly, interiors, became his hallmark.

The exhibition allows visitors to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the estate life of the early 20th century, with its unhurried everyday life, close relationship with nature, not only thanks to the masterful painting by Stanislav Zhukovsky, but also through installations of furniture, clocks, porcelain, sculpture and other household items. The objects on his paintings, “coming out” into space, evoke sensation of presence.

In addition to Stanislav Zhukovsky’s paintings, the exhibition will feature the artists of his circle – Isaac Levitan, under whom Zhukovsky studied, and the painter’s friends – Vitold Byalynitsky-Birulya, Aleksandr Moravov, Konstantin Korovin and others.

The exhibition includes more than 100 works of painting and arts and crafts from the collection of the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus, as well as one work from the corporate collection of OJSC “Belgazprombank”.

The curator – Yulia Lisay, a leading research worker of the Department of Foreign Art in the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus

The exhibition runs until October 19, 2023
