Watercolour is one of the most commonly used art techniques. Yet it is complex and fascinating, capricious, unpredictable, almost not allowing for touch-ups and alterations. Working with watercolour requires speed and precision from the artist, as well as total mastery of colour and form.
In recent times, watercolour has become increasingly popular among art connoisseurs, but the general Belarusian public is still little acquainted with the work of the greatest watercolourists of our country. However, nowadays Belarus has a highly professional national school of watercolour painting, which combines the traditions of romantic and realist art with new trends of the 20th–21st centuries.
The exhibition “Watercolour. Variations” presents works by renowned Belarusian masters of watercolour. Among the names on display are those who already went down in the national history of arts (Vital Tsvirka, Fyodar Kisialiou, Genadz Shutau), as well as artists actively working today (Siamion Damarad, Mikalai Auchynnikau, Viachaslau Paulavets, Siarhei Pisarenka), which offers the viewer an imaginative showcase of the diversity of styles and genres of watercolour painting.
The exhibition will be on display until 29 September 2025.
Exhibition curator: Franc Korzun, researcher at the exhibition department of the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus.
