The Studio of Military Artists at the Central House of Officers of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus was created on December 12, 2003 on the initiative of the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Belarus, Colonel General Leanid Maltsau. At its origins stood the People’s Artists of Belarus Mikhail Savitsky, Viktar Gramyka, Leanid Shchamialiou, Georgy Paplausky, Ivan Misko as well as other famous painters: Barys Arakcheeu, Uladzimir Gardzeenka, Leanid Dudarenka, Uladzimir Urodnich, Georgy Loika. The head of the Studio is Mikalai Apiyok, Honoured Artist of the Republic of Belarus, laureate of the Prize of the President of the Republic of Belarus “For Spiritual Revival”, Honorary Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts.

The key goals of the studio are: development of military, historical, heroic and patriotic themes in fine arts; creation and promotion of works on patriotic themes that contribute to the aesthetic, spiritual and moral education of the viewer; coordination of efforts of Belarusian artists creating works on patriotic, military and historical themes.

The exhibition presents the works of artists of different generations – from those already renowned (Georgy Paplausky, Mikalai Apiyok, Uladzimir Urodnich, Georgy Loika, Uladzimir Gardzeyenka) to members of the younger generation (Anton Vyrva, Kanstantsin Pakhomchyk). The paintings on display are in a variety of genres – portraits, landscapes, still lifes, genre compositions – and on diverse themes: depictions of the Great Patriotic War next to scenes from the everyday life of the modern Belarusian army; space conquest and Arctic exploration juxtaposed with studies of day-to-day living and philosophical and symbolic works. Of special interest are the two portrait series: portraits of cosmonauts and Twice Heroes of the Soviet Union who were born in Belarus.

The exhibition runs until July 7, 2024.

Exhibition curator: Franc Korzun, researcher at the exhibition department of the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus.
